The Bike..Reincarnated

We've had the girls' bikes hanging in the garage in our current home and our last one for quite some time. A couple of years ago, the girls received scooters for Christmas. So the bikes were forgotten until Saturday. Morgan had training wheels the last time she was on the bike. And today as Brad was calculating how to revive Megan's Barbie bike into a boy's bike, Morgan zooms past us with her old bike with no training wheels!! What?!? We were so proud of her. When she was using the training wheels before, she was very timid. But she's so excited to be riding a bike on her own.
Brad said we weren't going to buy Braden a bike. He was just going to paint the other one blue. My first reaction was, "What are you thinking? You can't paint a bike." Brad was adamant on not getting a new bike and had it all planned out on what we were going to do with this pink Barbie bike. It was actually Braden's size. But surely, no one has ever done anything like this before. Right?!?! Little did I know that growing up, Brad used to do stuff like this all the time.
We asked Braden what color he wanted his bike to be. Of course, BLUE. So we went to Wal-mart to buy the spray paint and then Brad meticulously removed the Barbie flowers and other decorations from the bike.
I tried to help take the stickers off too, but wasn't very effective in the process. He took everything from the wheels, chain, seat, to the handle bars off to spray paint. We switched the two seats out since this bike had a white seat with pink trim.
After a few coats of paint, and stickers Brad found from his remote control car, here is the finished product. Pretty good job huh?? Braden was so anxious to try out his "new" bike.
(You wouldn't have believed us until you noticed the purple pedals still entact)

We invested in some training wheels and now Braden is zipping around the neighborhood proudly.
Now we had to think about Megan since she has outgrown the bikes. We got up early and went to various yard sales all morning. There were a couple that she wanted to settle on, but they were big or rusty. Our last stop was a neighborhood yard sale near our house. One bike caught my eye, we stopped and took a look at it, she got on to see how it felt, and scored with a Schwinn for $10.00!!! in less than 5 minutes. We're so glad we didn't settle for the first or second one we saw that day.

You guys are so crafty! I am very impressed. It would have been so much easier just to go buy a bike. Great Job!
